This one is a doozy. While recording “Coming Up To Breathe”, I had a song idea that I was especially fond of. The band was not too fond of the original idea, and looking back, I can see why. However, while working at the studio one night, Barry saw a vision of hope within my poor little song, so we finished the song together at about 4 in the morning.
The good news: The song turned out better than I could have ever dreamed, and we were able to record it with the London Symphony.
The bad news: it still did not make the record. It was merely an exclusive track whenever you purchased “Coming Up To Breathe” from a certain retail chain. I still love the song, and think we should have put it on the album. Oh well, you can’t win them all.

Its amazing how different the vocals sound on the finished product. Very nice, warm tones going on here.
What kind of mic do you guys record on Bart?
Chad
i love it when you sing ballads….write one called Save Me….
Chad…
The mics vary from song to song…and engineer to engineer. The engineer on our last 3 records has a Mic called a BIG mic that he likes on Bart’s vocals, but the one that was on Sing, was actually a Neumann U67…or maybe it was a U47…can’t recall exactly. Anyways. This vocal was recorded live @ Abbey Road Studios in London, while the orchestra was playing. This mic was also very old and had been used on many recordings including Beatles, Led Zepplin, and other great bands that have recorded @ Abbey Road.
Sorry…kind of a nerd about this stuff.

WOW! Is that angel wings I hear fluttering?
PRAISE BE TO GOD!
GOD BLESS MERCYME ALWAYS!
This song is fabulous. The instrumental and vocals mesh really well together. Really good song to worship God!
Wow! I think I have a new favorite song
But, I have to say that I like the first part (with just the guitar and vocals) the best.
The bad part is that now I feel like I made a mistake buying “Coming up to Breathe” at the wrong store!
Not to mention “The Rhythm”…
I loved this song from the moment I heard it.
Love how these songs evolve. Very cool! Thanks for sharing!
Bart,
That song was AWESOME! Shocked it didn’t make the cut.
Thanks for the cool blog. Great song, but it doesn’t really fit with the rest of Coming Up to Breathe.
Did you ever finish the Ask Mercy Me segment on here? Did Bart and Jim ever have a turn?
Keep on rockin!
Wow. You should make that available to buy!
Definitely my new fav.
This beautiful … is there anyway I can get it?
yeah, man. next album. gorgeous song.
Great recordings. I really like the first version because of the faster beat and the way you do the vocals are amazing in the first. You should definately record this one for your next album.
