My parents asked me if I’d like to take piano lessons when I was 7 years old. I took them thru my freshman year in college. I played in several different bands before we started MercyMe.After I discovered I didn’t want to go to school for piano, I went to audio engineering school. Following graduation I worked in a studio in Oklahoma City for 5 years. After that, I freelanced engineered for a few years while MercyMe started playing. I’ve been playing for 33 years. Yikes!

q&a
Wife:Misti
Kid(s):
Riley & Jack
Where were you born and where have you lived?
Born in Joplin, MO, grew up in Clinton, MO and have lived in Orlando, FL, Edmond, OK, Nashville, TN, Arlington, TX, Fort Worth, TX & Greenville, TX
Best childhood memory:
I don’t know if I can remember that far back! Lots of memories with my parents. I always loved the 4 of July. It was the only time I could blow stuff up without getting in a ton of trouble! I miss bottle rockets.
Most embarrassing moment:
Accidentally burping in a microphone while singing a solo at church in my grade school choir. Did I mention that it was live on the radio too? The motto for this is: Don’t drink Dr. Pepper before you sing.
What are you most known for saying?
Something intelligent I’m sure! ;)
If the bus were burning, what is the one musical instrument you would grab?
Certainly not my B3 organ. It’s too heavy. Ummm…. maybe the accordion because it’s light.
Favorite Quote:
“I love you Daddy” as said by my 4 1/2 yr old Riley and "Car, Vrrrrmmmmmm vrrrrmmmmmmm" as said by Jack who's 2.
Favorite color(s):
Green, blue….. no yellow! Aaaaaaaaaaaa….... (quote from Monty Python).
Hobbies and/or favorite thing(s) to do in your leisure time:
Hanging out with my family and watching Riley & Jack pick up bugs and misc. amphibians to scare my wife. Anything to do with auto racing (collecting memorabilia, watching races, and attending them). I'm really getting into Photography. I'm even starting to take pictures of other people's families. Yikes.
Collect anything?
Ummmm…. see the previous question. In case you didn’t notice, I like racing!
A Band/Artist that inspired you the most:
Probably overall is the Beatles
What’s on your ipod playlist?
Everything and anything you can imagine: classic rock, country, R&B, alternative, etc.
Favorite artist/band(s) to see live:
Anything but Barney, The Wiggles, Bob The Builder or Little Bear! I would love to see Paul McCartney before he retires.
Favorite Movie(s):
I think it might be anything with Jack Black, Tim Robbins or Morgan Freeman.
Favorite Book:
Do auto racing magazines count?
Favorite Cartoon Character:
Probably The Tick & any classic Tom & Jerry, etc.
What, for you, is a good show and/or what is your favorite thing about playing?
A good show is when something of mine doesn’t break, catch on fire, or fall off a keyboard stand! My favorite thing about playing is seeing a different crowd every night. Watching them sing along and worship makes all the long hours, crowded airline flights and being away from my family much easier.
